If they made another Driver

Kinja'd!!!

There just needs to be a Driver 6 in my life, specially if it's as good as San Francisco was. No news yet though, I wonder, as I've wondered for a long time, if it's even in the works.

Went by TailHappy back then.

Exactly why I like it so much. I tried playing GTA while the next one doesn't come out, but it's just not the same. Using cars during missions (as opposed to going to and then escaping from said missions) required a fair amount of creativity and at least two mods, while in Driver, cars were the missions...

Legend has it Ubi is already working on the next one, but they'll only unveil it a month before release. I guess they're keeping it (puts on 1970's aviators) under covers for the time being.

To be fair Reflections has been helping Ivory Tower with The Crew so the next Driver game is probably on the back burner until that's at least shipped.

I'm still missing a couple... Never played Driver 3 or 76, and I didn't go too far into the Nintendo Wii and DS versions either because I didn't own any of the consoles. Other than that, I finished four of the five main titles, finding every secret car and spot in Driver 2, completing every sidejob and mission in Parallel Lines and doing every single one of the stunts, dares and challenges on SF.

Driver 2 was probably the one that gave me the most trouble, took me over 10 years to finish, haha... I usually got stuck in one of the Brazil missions, so that may or may not be related to my feelings towards here :p

Don't forget dat 67 Fairlane. To be honest, though, I had very little idea what the cars in the game were supposed to represent back then, just thouht they were cool and different from other games' cars.

That's all I have these days as well, haha... That and a Gameboy Color and an Advance. My Gamecube went kaput two years ago, and I never got into the next-now-last generation for lack of funds, so all I have is this PC and the N64 which me and my siblings still play when were at our parents'

Just googled it, and it... actually looks pretty interesting. An arcade driver with limitless freedom and all kinds of races is what I liked the most about Driver San Francisco. They could tone down the whole "illegal street racing scene" thing though, that gets old fast... As if we'd need an excuse to race our asses off.

Yep, but only on the PSX version. Some of the cars were closer to real life models on the PC version, inlcuding this one, which had the narrow tailights of the 70 Skylark.

IGCD has a pretty comprehensive list of the cars in the game and their real life counterparts, or what least the ones closest to them

The original Driver was one of my great video game loves. Then I discovered the cheats that raised the car ...2 wheeled turns like WHOA....and made the car mini sized and it only got better.

SF was so good. Played them all, but the previous games had the difficulty all over the place, or was that just me? Some of the missions were ridiculous....

I never played Driver 3, so I can't speak for that one, but on the first two, you're spot on. The training stage on the first one became infamous in Brazil as the only stage many people ever played; being unable to understand what you were told to do in English and all. New York in the original Driver also had some pretty WTF moments, specially the final mission.

Driver 2 had some pretty ball busting moments right off the bat. Evading the cops after checking the warehouse, chasing down Jericho, escaping Kaine's complex, all of those took multiple tries everytime I played it. Some of the Havana missions were absurd as well, like finding and ramming 4 cars in 2 minutes or disabling, but not destroying an ammo truck. The worst, most unforgiving missions, had to be the Rio ones though. Chasing the guy that shoots Jericho was more luck than skill, took me days just to learn his route and I still couldn't keep up. I got lucky one day and he fell off the road and died.

Parallel Lines, however, didn't stand a chance against my raw skill, hahah...

D3 was infuriating, especially the Istanbul missions. And the old games sucked whenever you were on-foot, it was like controlling a guy with shopping cart wheels on his feet.

What I really miss is the old Getaway games on PS2, pretty much another GTA clone but the cars actually handled fairly sensibly and with loads of classic UK rides. It had a huge area of London mapped out with all the correct shops, buildings etc. I played it for the first time in London, so I drove in-game to the house I was playing it in, got out to have a look and was squished by a Saab 900 (can't remember the last game to feature any Saabs!). It even had randomly generated license plates for each car, which don't seem to be something most car games bother with even now.

GTA SA has those, everytime I got to the garage to pick up a car, the license has changed because the car has, essentially, respawned with a new random license. There are a few exceptions though.

Totally off topic, though, haha...

It's a cool game, I'd still be playing it if it hadn't screwed up my saves out of the blue one day, but I find it unfair to compare Driver and GTA. The focus of both games, specially Parallel Lines and San Andreas which are the most similar of the bunch, is totally different, GTA is hardly a driving game... I'm not saying Driver made me a good virtual wheelman, but as soon as I had the cars in SA figured out, I never even caught wind of the police anymore.

SA did allow me to drive a lowrider hearse, I think that alone is why I spent longer playing it over Driver...
